Is IPL Killing Cricket ?
Is Indian Premiere League killing the world cricket and ruining the bowler’s carrier. This question was raised so many times in a recent days because from the current stage in IPL, matches are taking places where even 250 plus score are not defendable and the batsman are completely dominating the bowlers, is the good for Cricket?
Nowadays everyone is happy to see high scoring matches in IPL. But if you think about that, these high scoring matches and these flat pitches is it good for Cricket. Before IPL 2024, there was just 2 instances of this where team score a 250 plus runs. But IPL 2024 has already witnessed 7 totals in excess of 250 Runs. This might not necessarily be good for the game. It is bringing into question the balance in the contest between bat and ball. The pitches have become batter friendly, with the surface not providing bowlers any assistance.
Experts are also raising Question
Sunil Gavaskar, meanwhile, has called for increasing the boundary size for grounds which provide some benefits to the bowlers. Also Gautam Gambhir and Harsha Bhogle, among others, to call for a change in the Kookaburra balls that rely on the pitch for lateral movement being used in the tournament.
2 Main Reason which is destroying the Cricket
1. Impact Player Rule- In the last season of Indian Premier League’s (IPL), “Impact player” rule allows teams to bring in a substitute at any time for a player in the starting 11. The rule has led to skyrocketing totals but not everyone is happy with the change, especially the all-rounders in the popular T20 tournament. Teams have been using it to great effect in the current campaign, swapping out a bowler for a batter during a run chase and bringing up 200-plus totals frequently.
2. Flat Pitches and Small Boundaries:- In IPL 2024 there are so many stadium are providing a flat pitches on match, which helps a batter to dominate against a bowlers. Also a small boundaries are one of the main reason of high scoring matches in this IPL.
But spare a thought for the bowlers who do not have much going for them despite their skills. As IPL 2024 continues to lean heavily towards batters, it is essential to ensure that there is still room for bowlers to influence matches. The sport is, after all, based on the contest between bat and ball.
