Afghanistan made history by winning their first-ever ODI series against South Africa (AFG vs SA). In the second ODI, explosive batting performances from the Afghanistan batsmen Gurbaz and Umarzai set the stage, while spinner Rashid and Nangalia showcased their spin magic. Together, they dismissed nine batsmen, leading Afghanistan to a remarkable victory by 177 runs.

Afghanistan won the toss

Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat first. Afghanistan Opener Riaz Hasan and Rahmanullah Gurbaz put together a partnership of 88 runs for the first wicket, with Hasan scoring 29 runs before getting out. Following this, Gurbaz and Rahmat Shah formed a second-wicket partnership of 101 runs, during which Gurbaz achieved his seventh ODI century.

In a remarkable display of batting, Gurbaz scored an impressive 105 runs, leading Afghanistan to a strong position. Alongside him, Rahmat Shah contributed significantly with a solid half-century, scoring 50 runs. Their partnership laid a solid foundation for the innings, but it was Ajmatullah Omarzai’s who showcased his power-hitting skills at end and remaining unbeaten with 86 runs off just 50 balls. His innings featured 6 sixes and 5 fours. Omarzai playing a crucial role in pushing Afghanistan’s total to 311 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.

Rashid and Nangalia’s Spin Magic

South Africa chasing a target of 312 (AFG vs SA), began their innings confidently. Temba Bavuma and Tony de Zorzi formed a solid opening partnership, putting on 73 runs for the first wicket. However, the match turned when Bavuma fell for 38 runs, followed by de Zorzi’s dismissal at the hands of Rashid Khan. But after a promising start, South Africa’s batting lineup collapsed against the spin of Rashid Khan and Nangalia Kharote.

4 Wickets Lost Within 7 Runs

South Africa faced a dramatic collapse after a good start, they losing their four wickets within just seven runs (AFG vs SA). Rashid Khan was showing his exceptional bowling skills and takes 3 key wickets. Nangalia Kharote also made a significant impact as well, taking four wickets during his spell. And then Rashid Khan dismissed Aiden Markram and ending South Africa’s last hope.

Afghanistan Clinches the ODI Series

Afghani spinner Rashid Khan’s exceptional bowling figures of 5 wickets for just 19 runs in 9 overs (AFG vs SA) highlighted his dominance, while Kharote also doing a exceptional job by taking 4 wickets. South Africa’s entire innings is just end in 134 runs, allowing Afghanistan to secure their first ODI series victory against South Africa.
