IND VS NZ: Dramatic Collapse For India As Henry Took 5-Wicket Hauls On Day 2, NZ Is Leading By 134 Runs

After losing a day in the hands of rain, India was ready for the Kiwi challenge on day 2. It was a bright and sunny day for New Zealand but cloudy and overcast for India as they got bowled out for 46 runs in the first innings of IND vs NZ match

In the response of India’s 46, New Zealand scored 180/3 at the end of day 2. The Blackcaps were without their former captain Kane Williamson on the field but they made sure to tick all the check boxes. Both Matt Henry and William Orourke were exceptional with the ball as they took 5-wickets and 4-wickets respectively to give heavy damage to the Indian side.

46/10 for Team India

Captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first. The decision did not go in the favour of Men in Blue as their captain departed cheaply. Shubman Gill was not playing in this match so their former captain came into bat at No. 3 but his innings did not last long and he went for a duck.

India was on 10/3 before rain interrupted the game in the first innings. As soon as the match started we saw a dramatic collapse of the Indian batting order. For there were still in-form batters and a lower-order that has bailed them out from such situations. Only recently against Bangladesh in Chennai, they had recovered from a top-order collapse to go on and win the match. Apart from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant not a single player even touched a double digit mark.

The Indian captain admitted that he did not read the pitch well enough and went for extra spinner in place of a fast bowler.

The Kiwi challenge for India

Newly appointed New Zealand captain had the last laugh after losing the toss to the host. It was bright and sunny in the morning after two gloomy days. The day was a debacle for India clearly and was further accentuated with New Zealand making the most of their fortune. The right-arm fast bowler was also surprised with the amount of movement offered by the pitch.

For Matt Henry, who ended up with a 5-wicket haul, this was only his 26th appearance in whites for New Zealand. Henry was complemented by his partner William ORourke very well and they both took 9 wickets of the Indian side with the combined spell of 15.2 overs.

Devon Conway looked in a great touch and scored 91 runs on this surface and gave a solid start to the New Zealand innings. The Blackcaps will be looking to put on a competitive total on Day 3. They are leading by 134 runs at the end of day 2 and still they have 7 wickets in hand.
