BCCI Set to Make Shocking Decision on Harmanpreet Kaur’s Captaincy After World Cup Exit!

As per recent developments in Indian cricket, BCCI is looking to replace their women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur with a new face after yet another failure in the T20 World Cup.

India’s T20 World Cup campaign came to an end after a defeat in the hands of Australia at Sharjah on Oct 13. India scored 142/9 in the response of Australia’s 151/8 and lost by 9 runs. With this defeat many tough questions have been asked so far about the future of the Indian Women’s Team and also about their current captain. These questions need to be addressed in the near future.

Head coach Amol Mazumdar to meet with BCCI officials

Amol Mazumdar, the head coach of the Indian Women’s Team, is set to meet with high officials of BCCI and the selection committee to discuss the path ahead for the team. As per reports, BCCI may consider a new face to handle captaincy of the team.

“The BCCI will certainly discuss whether to have a new captain on board going ahead,” said a source.

“The BCCI has ensured everything for the team as per their requirements, and they feel it is the right time to work with the new leader,” also added.

Kaur will be an important member – source

The current Indian captain took the charge of the Indian team in 2016. The team has performed well under her tenure, including a handful of appearances in finals. The team management will be looking for a reset ahead of the important home ODI World Cup in 2025.

“Kaur will play an important role and will be crucial for the Indian team in the coming future but the high officials are thinking for a change,” as per source.

The Indian captain has performed well on an individual level in the World Cup with the bat and also scored a vital half-century in the last match against Australia.

BCCI is looking ahead

The high officials of BCCI and the selection committee will be looking beyond Kaur and they have started their work to find a deserving candidate for the role.

The likely alternative for captaincy is Smriti Mandhana who is also the current vice-captain of the side. She has led Royal Challengers Bangalore to their maiden WPL title in 2024. She has also led India in the absence of their regular captain Kaur.

A new start might help India to become World Champions from Being contender.
